Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has claimed that he was the only person in Nigeria who openly told music executive Don Jazzy the truth about his burger when it was first launched.
Famakin made the statement while reflecting on the reaction he received after reviewing Don Jazzy’s burger and suggesting areas where it could be improved.
According to him, many people were reluctant to criticise the product because they admired Don Jazzy and wanted to remain in his good books.
“I was the only one in Nigeria and that told him the truth because nobody wants to offend Don Jazzy. I wasn't even trying to be malicious. Everybody wants to be in his good books.”
Famakin said that while others praised the burger, he chose to give an honest review and point out areas that needed improvement.
“Everybody was saying, ‘Mmm, it's delicious,’ because it's on Jazzy. He's a good person. Nobody wants to tell him that, okay, this burger is good, but to make it better, work on this, work on this, work on this.”
He also claimed that his approach to reviewing businesses has earned him criticism, with some Nigerians accusing him of trying to destroy businesses rather than provide constructive feedback.
“Nigerians see me as a business destroyer. I was the only one in Nigeria who told Don Jazzy the truth about his burger because everyone wants to be in his good books. I corrected him, and he listened.”
Famakin added that the burger was later reviewed and changed, suggesting that the feedback he provided was taken into consideration.
